WaterStep to Hold Press Conference on Multi-Phase Ebola Outbreak Response

WaterStep invites members of the media to a press conference highlighting the organization’s urgent and expanding response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and what next steps are.

Event Details:

  • Date: Thursday, June 4, 2026
  • Time: 10:00 AM EDT
  • Location: WaterStep Headquarters, 625 Myrtle Street, Louisville, Kentucky

What: WaterStep leadership will provide an update on its multi-phase Ebola intervention, including:

  • Phase 1: the deployment of BleachMakers and handwashing stations to create disinfectant production hubs, build Infections Prevention Control (IPC) capacity at health facilities and community sensitization through educational PSAs in Goma and Bunia in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Plans to expand closer to the epicenter in Ituri Province.
  • Vision for Phases 2 and 3 focused on scaling containment, training, and long-term community resilience.

Speakers will share on-the-ground impact, partnership efforts with local organizations like Congo Connect and Thrive, and how sustainable WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) solutions are helping stop the spread of Ebola.

Why Attend: This is a timely opportunity to learn how a Kentucky-based nonprofit is delivering life-saving tools directly to communities at the front lines of the Ebola crisis and building sustainable prevention against future outbreaks.
