Meet Tyrei Hanlon!

Check out our interview with our Facilities Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, Tyrei Hanlon:
  1. How long have you been involved with WaterStep?
I’ve been involved with WaterStep for three years now!
  1. What is your current role?
My current role is Facility/Volunteer Coordinator, and I’m learning to produce media for WaterStep now, too.
  1. What is your WaterStep “Why?”
I would say my WaterStep “why” is simply because I can. I have the time and resources to be able to help, so if I can, then why not? Seeing first-hand that a community’s drinking water is the very same water that is filled with trash, animals use, the people of the community also bathe in, and wash their clothes in, can really just weigh heavy on the heart. So why not help if I can? WaterStep makes it very easy for anyone to get involved.
  1. What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part about my job is all the people I meet and interact with! Getting to meet all the volunteers that come through this building is always such a joy and a blast! Relationships that get built here are just so exciting, as well!
  1. What do you miss most about being in the office?
Well, I’ve actually had the privilege of being in the office all throughout the pandemic. But, being the only one in the office the majority of the time got lonely. I missed seeing the rest of the team here in the building. I missed the team interacting, hanging out and laughing together like the family we are around here. You never knew what the day would hold here at WaterStep when we were all here in the office. These are the things I missed most about the team not being in the office.
  1. Tell us about your family.
My family is amazing! I absolutely love them. Never a dull moment when I’m with my family. I am the oldest of four. I have a 16 year old sister, a 6 year old sister and a 2 year old brother. My siblings are always such a joy to be around. There’s always so much laughter when the four of us are together. So much fun. My momma is the strongest woman I know. The way she carries herself, all that she has done for me and my siblings, and the strength she has is just amazing. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without her. There is so much I could say about my family. They are truly amazing.
  1. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
If I could go anywhere in the world, I would love to go to Yellowknife Canada, so I can see the Northern Lights. I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights!

Thank you, Tyrei, for all you do for WaterStep!
