Turning Passion into Impact: Can Soccer change the world?

“Through the power of soccer, we are rallying global support and bringing life-saving solutions to those who need them most.”

– Mark Hogg, WaterStep Founder & CEO

WaterStep is excited to announce the launch of a powerful new campaign, “The Beautiful Game vs The Greatest Crisis.” This initiative aims to harness the worldwide passion for soccer to help defeat the global safe water crisis, which continues to affect billions of people every day.

WaterStep is calling on the international soccer community — clubs, players, fans, and sponsors — to take action in the fight to provide life-saving solutions. Whether it’s through funding a safe water system, launching a club-led campaign, engaging supporters, or amplifying the message, there’s a role for every team and every fan.

Louisville Triumph, a local arena league women’s soccer team, has already made WaterStep the team’s Impact Sponsor. These women are using their platform to challenge other teams to join in. They’re especially motivated by the knowledge that women and girls are disproportionately affected by unsafe water. They spend hours each day collecting it, which can be dangerous and often leads to missed educational opportunities.

Adding to the momentum is WaterStep’s Teen Board, which is organizing the first-ever “Steps for Safe Water 5K,” set to take place on September 20, 2025, at the Lynn Family Stadium, home of LouCity and Racing Louisville soccer teams. Participants will run or walk a distance of 5 kilometers, reflecting the average distance that people in the Global South must travel to collect water each day.

We already have projects underway that are transforming communities and lives through this campaign. If you are a player, coach, team, or fan looking to get involved, please reach out through our Contact Us link and let’s see how you can be a part of changing the world.

One Game. One Goal. Safe Water.
