Colombia

Catastrophic flooding hit northern Colombia, contaminating water sources and putting families at serious risk of waterborne disease.

Our partners at Fundación Doulos are already responding alongside WaterStep, but many remote communities are still waiting for safe water.

This crisis is unfolding in a place where Daniel Bravo has spent years mentoring leaders in some of Colombia’s poorest communities. Daniel believes there are remarkable people everywhere who simply need someone to say, You can do it. I believe in you.

One of those leaders is Alex.

Daniel met Alex in Chocó, a remote region where unsafe water has devastating consequences for children and families. Daniel equipped Alex with the ability to provide safe water for his community.

Months later, he learned Alex had begun bringing safe water to a neighboring Indigenous community—one that had been divided from Alex’s community for generations.

ā€œWe’re friends now,ā€ Alex told him. ā€œBecause I come to purify water for them.ā€

That’s what safe water can do. It heals more than bodies.

And now, as flooding threatens communities across the region, leaders like Daniel and Alex are responding again.

We need to raise more to help reach remote communities with safe water.

Daniel found his Alex—the person who helped him believe deep change really is possible. And safe water changed what Alex believed was possible, too.

Now Alex is busy helping others.

And right now, we’re looking for more people willing to step into this story with them.

Together, we know what to do.
